This 1-day course covered topics such as networking components, designing a network, network topology, unicast and multicast, network applications and troubleshooting the network.

This class certification covered:

• Network fundamentals.
• Topology for setting up large NVX systems.
• Network architecture.
• Network designs.
• The function and capabilities of internet protocol technologies for a network application.
• Unicast and multicast applications and configurations.
• Troubleshoot common network issues with Wireshark.

The Certified Technology Specialist certification must be renewed every three years. My CTS is now valid until Feb 28, 2021. Renewal requires 30 renewal units in the form of extra-curricular trainings, webinars, trade classes and such. To my delight I was able to more than fulfill this requirement as I’m sponging up every possible opportunity. The AV industry is fast-paced so it’s my intention to become saturated with as much exposure as possible.

I am Dante Certified Level 1 – how groovy is that???

The Dante Certification program provides an easy way for system designers, engineers and others in the industry to learn about Dante with in-depth training and promote their expertise. The certification program demonstrates your Dante proficiency to potential employers and clients. The certification program currently has two levels, but the goal is to add additional levels, as well as specializations by industry role in the future.

The question of selecting the proper display size versus the audience viewing distance has been asked for over four decades in the AV industry. Up to this point there has not been an exact formula that has undergone true scientific scrutiny. The variable has always been the viewing criteria for the application, and the fact that different viewing purposes will require different viewing distances, screen sizes and font sizes.

For years, the commercial AV industry used a general rule, called the 4-6-8 Rule. It simply stated that there are three viewing criteria, and a maximum viewing distance, based on screen height:

• Inspection viewing – 4X Screen Height
• Detailed viewing – 6X Screen Height
• General viewing – 8X Screen Height

Recent work and scientific research shows that, while originally functional, this is now understood to be a less accurate approach. New standards have been developed to address this accurately. We will take you through the laws of physics of visual acuity as well as the new ANSI standard and then provide real world formula, calculators, and examples to support this enlightened approach.
