These dates are fun. Alexis took a photo date at Wal-Mart and then Rachel wanted the same. So we did an outdoor date spanning several days.
Date with Rachel
This date with Rachel was supposed to be at Kyoto, Japanese restaurant. However, Heather felt it was too expensive and protested. The day before, as a forerunner to fate, I told Rachel that her date would be #1-fancy, #2-a restaurant where she’d never been, and #3-a surprise. So when Heather persuaded me to change it was Rachel who reminded me of my commitments. We had no other viable options but Kyoto. On the way I told Rachel where we were going and she quickly expressed disapproval saying she does not like Chinese food. It gives her a tummy ache. So off to Village Squire we went and all was well.
Labor Day visit by Grandma
My mother visited for Labor Day. We had a delightful time as always going to the mall, Royal Oaks apple orchard, and so forth. We skipped the Countryside’s annual corn roast – bummer. The highlight for me was having mom watch the twins while Heather and I took a date to Kyoto Japanese Restaurant.
Date with Alexis
We went to Five Below in Crystal Lake for our Daddy daughter date. It was after the David and Lisha Radford wedding so we were all dressed up. Alexis wanted to buy a stuffed animal lamb that was shaped round like a ball as a gift for Rachel. We also purchased a sucker and sour dot candy.

Date with Alexis
With the temperature at 100 degree on the 4th of July, we decided to go see a movie in Woodstock. Alexis and I saw Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted. Alexis loved it and we stayed cool. That evening, we celebrated Independence day with homemade ice cream with the Gibsons at our house.
15th Anniversary
Heather and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary on June 21. This is the summer solstice, the longest daylight hours of the year. For our anniversary, the twins decided to serve us dinner. They did this for Grammy and Grandaddy previous. We ate in the dinning room and the twins brought us beverages, food, and even sand the “Happy Anniversary” song – kin to happy birthday. It was a meaningful and pleasant anniversary gift. I bought flowers for Heather.
Vacation in Wisconsin Dells
We’re off to Wisconsin Dells for a three night vacation at Chula-Vista.
Hussle for Hungary 5K
The youth who are going to Budapest, Hungary on a mission trip hosted the “Hustle for Hungary” 5k run. There were about 130 runners and walkers who entered at the Deer Grove East park course. I came in 5th place at 20:53 behind Dave Smith. Heather and the twins cheered along side of me. We had some snacks, watch RC airplanes, and encouraged the short term missionaries at the post-race party.
Running with the family
I’ve been running for over a year now and love to have the family join me while I’m pounding the pavement. The girls are all on bicycles while I am on my feet. We usually go for a few miles around the yellow park and nearby neighborhoods. They don’t mind going slower for my sake and I really enjoy their company. Today we are all going for a bike ride.
