InfoComm’s “Understanding Digital Video Formats — From DVI-D to Thunderbolt and More!”

This webinar was completed on Aug 27, 2015.

The AV world has moved away from analog connectivity and it’s not moving back. Digital video is your future! In addition to sourcing content in the digital domain, we must understand the variation in connectivity and performance. Add to this the demand for digital content protection and the realities of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), coupled with the proliferation of digital mobile devices and commercial/consumer convergence, and it all means that the ability to accommodate emerging standards in enterprise environments has never been more important. If you’re wondering how long your aging VGA connections in your conference rooms will suffice, you’ll find the answers in this presentation. If you need to know if HDMI or DisplayPort is the right connectivity to design into your next system, then this is a class you need to take. If you want to know how to accommodate legacy DVI-D and simultaneously prepare for Thunderbolt, then this is a training you won’t want to miss. If you are looking for a competitive edge, and you’re just not sure what all these new acronyms mean for your and your project. then this will be time well spent. Join us for Understanding Digital Video Formats – From DVI-D to Thunderbolt and More and step into the future with confidence!

InfoComm’s “Displayed Image Size for 2D Content: How Big is Big Enough?”

This webinar was completed on July 9, 2015. InfoComm changed their standards after this webinar so back to the starting board. This is typical in the AV Industry – everything is constantly being reinvented.

A standard development task group is studying this very question to determine how big a displayed image should be, and the answer may surprise you. Their work is based on teachings from the 4-6-8 rule and more recent science and testing, as well as the viewing categories used in PISCR (the Projected Image System Contrast Ratio standard). Don’t know what those categories are? Come hear Greg Jeffreys update you on the latest findings of the group and what they still have to figure out!

Learning Objectives:

Learn the science behind determining displayed image-size requirements
Understand the difference between analytical viewing and basic decision-making viewing
Apply the visual acuity factor to formulas for determining proper displayed image size

Hussle for Hungary 5K

The youth who are going to Budapest, Hungary on a mission trip hosted the “Hustle for Hungary” 5k run. There were about 130 runners and walkers who entered at the Deer Grove East park course. I came in 5th place at 20:53 behind Dave Smith. Heather and the twins cheered along side of me. We had some snacks, watch RC airplanes, and encouraged the short term missionaries at the post-race party.

Gurus of Tech

Willow Creek of Crystal Lake hosted the 2012 Gurus of Tech conference for ministry technical volunteers and staff. Eric Hoelter, Josh Sharp, and Ben Sincock from The Orchard Evangelical Free Church attended. Many vendors were represented and we got our hands on the newest Yamaha sound boards, LED lights, and DSLR cameras. We divided and reassembled after the breakout sessions. Tim Gibson, Technical Director at the Crystal Lake Evangelical Free Church, attended – the last few days before Eli was born.

Vimeo is down

Around 3:45pm on Tuesday, June 15 the giant video hosting website Vimeo.com went down. I edited a website that had embedded video from vimeo, uploaded some changes, and checked it for quality. A few minutes later, my client called me asking why the videos weren’t working. The problem was that Vimeo went down. Even my church hosts videos there. There are thousands of videos hosted on Vimeo so this is going to be fun to watch – or NOT watch as the case may be.

Update in the evening:
It’s back up again – don’t know when or how.
