Today I’m spending my time writing a Bible study for the junior high. It’s about listening to God and actually hearing Him. Listening is easy enough. You just have to pay attention. It’s the hearing part that is difficult.
What? What was that you said? I think I heard something. Or was that the wind? Or was that my own head?
Hearing God is tough because God doesn’t usually speak audibly so we can hear with our ears. We have to listen with our hearts, with our mind, with our spirit. This form of listening is vulnerable to subjectivity based on our mood or motivations. It’s easily corrupted.
The best way to hear from God, of course, is through the Scriptures. The Bible is true and does not change.
Then there is wise counsel.
Anyway, I’m excited about teaching this lesson because most of the junior high students don’t even try to listen to God. They don’t know what He sounds like. So, it’s going to be fun introducing this new concept to many of them.
