For our August Vacation, we went back to Rhinelander.

Rob had dropped hints, and I secretly went to work making sure these dreams would come true.

    1. See the stars.

    2. Ride a wave runner.

    3. Have a camp fire.

    4. Shoot something.

We stayed with the Dreschers. We saw the stars. The milky way was visible both nights we were there; and we even got to see the beginning of a meteor shower known as the Perseids. We did loops around Squash Lake on the wave runner.  Rob was thrilled.   We went out to Fort to see all our pals at Fort and Rob went over to Stockade 80 to shoot something.  The girls got to take a pony ride and paint with watercolor. Later that night we had a campfire complete with smores.

My only agenda was to see if I could actually receive a “correct” banana split.  Of course, I did not.  I went to Culvers.  Perhaps, If i had gone to DQ, I would not have been disappointed.  But–…… I even told the kid behind the counter that I wanted my banana split to look like the picture on the menu board.  FAIL!  I told them I did not want the sauce all over. FAIL!  Why oh why can they not get the banana split right.  Who is training these people???

So I must define what is a “correct” banana split.  One banana, peeled, but in half lengthwise, placed in banana boat bowl.  Three scoops of vanilla ice cream. Each scoop of ice cream gets its own topping, and its own dollop of whipped topping. The center one get the cherry.  If nuts are part of the equation, they are sprinkled around the sides.

My last banana split at Culver’s was like this (and one day I will post a pic). Banana cut into wagon wheels. Sauce layered on the bananas — all over. 3 scoops of ice cream. more sauce strewn all over. whipped cream sprayed all over. 6 cherries on top. nuts scattered about.  sauce was oozing over the sides of the bowl.   The young girl proudly presented her lavish creation to me with apologies for the oozing sauce. I had to laugh.  This is not the first banana volcano I have received from this Culver’s. Yet it did in no way resemble the photo on the menu board.  She failed to realize that people eat with their eyes first.    One time, I ordered one, and it didn’t even have the banana in it.  Apparently, Culver’s in Rhinelander is not the place to order a banana split.

I was disappointed not to have more time to see everyone.

Alexis’ favorite part was “all of it. I liked riding Comanche at Fort and painting with the kitchen ladies.  Iliked playing with the dogs.  I liked traveling to Rhinelander. I liked being back home after being at Rhinelander. I was very happy to be home. I wanted to go back to Rhinelander again some day. So, I didn’t know if was going to go back to Rhinelander one day. My mommy told me we would go back soon.  I wonder if we are going to… so tonight i dreamed if we were going to go back to Rhinelander one time. I knew we were going to go back to rhinelander soon. It was just a dream in my mind. there is a dream in my mind because there is a lot to do each day. I dreamed about everything each night and think about everything each day.”

    Cheerfully, I called the girls.
me: Girls, it’s snack time! Come to the Table!
R: Ooo, Lexi, it’s snack time!
    A: Snack time??? yeah!!!!
I place the two banana halves on the table, still encased in the peel.
A: Mom! These bananas have spots! They’re leopard bananas!
