  • Announcements

    Date: 2009.11.13 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 0

    I would like to announce…
    Alexis is making announcements.

A: I would like to announce that you have to be extra careful with the baby.
R: I would like to announce that baby Kitty likes to snuggle with Cimmamem.
A: I would like to say that because the people special and important have come to our group.
    R: Yea!
A: I would liek to announce this for Tiger and I would like to have her come down…

All I can figure is that they had some loud announcements yesterday in Cubbies.

Pardon, this site is under construction. You will likely see more changes in the days to come. There was a problem with my original layout displaying properly in IE7. Now my current layout has certain features — like my blogroll — which must be returned! So I have to find another layout or something. Rob! help!

  • Unfortunately….

    Date: 2009.03.27 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 1

The latest game on Facebook is to google “Unfortunately, (your name)” and see what comes up.

Unfortunately, Heather’s lungs don’t like the smoke either, but doing the race was part of her training plan so there she was.

Unfortunately, Heather was only able to pass the reading component of the tests. This failure, however, did not discourage Heather, but served instead to make her even more determined to reach her goal.

Unfortunately, Heather did not win. :-( . Michael J Fox has bid his farewell to Spin City. What does this mean for Heather???

Unfortunately, heather like full to partial sun, so this may not work for her.

Unfortunately, Heather did not see it that way and it took many efforts to persuade her that she was just what this new band was looking for.

Unfortunately, Heather was playing the nice role, and let her team mate sabotage both of them.

Unfortunately, Heather’s first job didn’t work out.

In a world filled with many many dim light bulbs (unfortunately), Heather is simply one of the brightest ones shining. She is amazingly intelligent, …

Unfortunately, Heather lost the ability to transform into Sasquatch.

Unfortunately, Heather didn’t do enough baking.

Unfortunately, Heather’s mother is too busy getting established as the local veterinarian and her father too obsessed with his new sailboat for either of them to pay much attention to her predicament.

DH has a long commute so he uses the train to go to work.  He parks “his” car in a remote garage at the other end of the rail line then drives to work.  He parks his car there over the weekend and whatever driving we need to do on his day off is done in “my” car.    Friday DH locked his keys in his car so he took  my car to work on Sat/Sun until he could break into his own car, retrieve the keys, lock the door again, and bring my car home. LOL.

DH had a work-related lunch to attend today, and he took my car.  I stayed home with the twins.  He called on the way home and said he’d be here in 30 minutes.  At 35 minutes I realized he wasn’t here and briefly wondered if he’d been in an accident.  He called literally 2 seconds later saying he’d been in an accident and the car was totalled.  A large truck carrying an empty POD smashed into the trunk of the car, pushed the car into the cargo van in front, and then the POD truck also struck the cargo van.   You can check out photos of the car accident on http://robsoukup.info.   Somehow DH walked away without a scratch.  I am so thankful for God’s protection.

So now, we need new carseats.  The girls are 38″ or taller, but no where near 40 lbs.  What car seat should I buy?
And now we also need a new car.  I’m looking at a Camry Hybrid, possibly… Anyone have stories to tell on the hybrids???

Rob apologized for the car.  I said, Who cares! I’m just so thankful I still have you.

  • How we organize toys

    Date: 2007.06.09 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 0

So a couple of online friends asked me how to organize toys. I have to admit this is an on-going process around here. Every birthday or Christmas we are getting more toys. Rob hates clutter, so I have to be creative in storing toys. The following vid gives you an idea of how we handle toy storage. A couple of areas I forgot to mention include the following:

    1. under the girls beds is one large plastic rubbermaid tub full of baby dolls and their accessories.

    2. Outside toys are stored in the garage or storage shed.

    3. Out-grown toys are given away or stored in one of those canvas bins in the guest room closet. Books they aren’t ready for are stored on the large bookcases downstairs.

Canvas bins were purchased at Wal-mart when we had mostly small infant toys. I also give credit to my friends Holly & Missy who is in charge of our church Nursery and Tiny Toys areas who have modeled great toy storage for me.

  • My most recent sewing projects

    Date: 2007.03.23 | Category: Uncategorized | Response: 0

Alexis’s Easter DressThis month (March) I have been diligently working on the girls’ Easter dresses. I actually began cogitating about the design back in January. The creative process takes time, you know. I started with the Easter Hats from 2006. Pat made some incredibly cute hats last season and the girls are still able to wear them. So she sent me the leftover fabric — which amounted to about a yard. So I began to look on-line at patterns which showed use of multiple fabrics. I finally decided on a Simplicity pattern, but didn’t want to spend the $10-15 on the pattern when it basically was only a yoke with 4 gathered tiers. I was going through my stash of patterns to try to find something similar to this design when I hit the jackpot.

I found one of my old patterns that Grandma Downs used for me – the copyright on the pattern is 1978. It happens to be a Simplicity pattern. The pattern called for a solid color dress with contrasting appliqué on the yoke and contrasting trim on the tiers. I made some adjustments to better use Pat’s fabric, to better fit the children, and to update the style. In the photo you see the final product.

Some special touches on each dress include an invisible zipper and rick rack trim. I customized the yoke appliqué for each. Alexis’ middle name is Hope; her appliqué says, “Faith, Hope, Love.” Rachel’s appliqué says, “Rejoice!” The twins love their new dresses.

I am finishing with Rachel’s dress tonight. Hers is the same design only using petal pink cotton sateen instead of lavender. The solid color fabric and white rick rack trim was purchased at Hancock’s fabric. The entire cost for both dresses is about $25, plus about 25-30 hours of sewing. Alexis’s Easter Dress
